Our first project, Restlands in Okehampton has been fully assessed, planned, approved and has 42 BNG units ready for sale.
In the initial biodiversity and carbon feasibility study the Site was found to support three fields of good condition modified grassland, a band of moderate condition lowland mixed deciduous woodland dividing the northern field from the southern fields, and extending up the east of the northern field boundary, a very small amount of other neutral grassland associated with a damp area at the north of the south western field, and a stream leading from the damp grassland through the woodland.

The proposed habitat creation and enhancement measures are predicted to deliver a net gain of 37.99 habitat units and 4.21 hedgerow units.
Organisations who are required to deliver Biodiversity Net Gain have to deliver at least 10% biodiversity gain on any sites. These can either be delivered onsite or by purchasing BNGs directly from Beyond Carbon.
Genuine biodiversity enhancement (biodiversity net gain) is the delivery of nature restoration at a scale that works for our planet and that can be verified and trusted for the 30 year agreed term.
As a developer the requirement to manage and monitor this restoration is quite a burden.

From January 2024, developers in England will be required to deliver a 10% “Biodiversity Net Gain” (BNG) when building new housing, industrial, or commercial developments.
This means that, by law, they must deliver a net positive for the local environment, for example by creating new habitats and green spaces or through the purchase of offsite BNG units.
Biodiversity net gain or loss is calculated by taking the pre – development habitat data (in BNG units) and comparing it to the post-development habitat data (in BNG units).
